Volem donar les gràcies al present Comitè, els quals han exercit la tasca d'organitzar i administrar els afers del Casal durant aquest any passat.

Comitè: Montse Becker, Peter Gerrand, Albert Casellas, Sara Bosch, Mireia Perez, Victòria Gras, Josephine Canals, Marina Mateos, i Angela Amoros. Subcomitè: Stewart King, Neus Gasulla.

Alguns d'aquests membres de Comité no es presenteran aquest any. Volem fer una crida a nous membres del Comitè i animar a altres socis a que hi formin part, sobre tot als joves que poden aportar noves idees a la tasca d'organització de les activitats. Només s'ha d'ajudar amb unes hores al mes, ja sigui fent un enviament de cartes, preparant la sala abans de qualsevol esdeveniment o amb qualsevol altra tasca fàcil per l'estil. Cadascú ajuda com i quant pot, sense obligacions.

Sense la vostra col·laboració, el Casal NO és possible. Feu possible l'existència del Casal i presenteu-vos com a part del comitè o subcomitè. Aquells socis que estiguin interessats a ser nomenats o, a nomenar a una altra persona, deuran completar el formulari de nomenació inclós que s'haura de fer arribar al Casal no més tard d'una setmana abans de la reunió.

No oblideu que el nostre Casal es de tots els socis, que està obert a tots i que per treura-li el rendiment que es mereix cal la vostra presencia en els actes que s'organitzen.

Recordem als socis que per tenir veu i vot a aquesta reunió cal estar al corrent del pagament de la QUOTA ANUAL 2011/2012. Preguem que feu efectiu aquest pagament bé per mediació de xec, mitjançant una transferència bancària o el dia mateix de la reunió. Per realitzar la transferència bancària, recordeu indicar el vostre nom i cognom com a referencia, al número de compte 06 3220 00900936 (Commonwealth Bank of Australia).

Adjuntem en aquesta carta la renovació de subscripció al Casal que com cada any va caducar el 30 de Juny per aquells que encara no l'hagin renovat. Enguany degut a la crisis econòmica, la Generalitat ha retallat les subvencions que normalment rebíem. Per això mès que mai, és important que renoveu la subscripció .

Voldriem encoratjar a tots els socis a assistir a aquesta reunió, ja que és una bona oportunitat per suggerencies i la vostra opinió vers el millorament del Casal.

We would like to thank the present Committee members, for having look after the Casal's affairs during this past year.

Committee: Montse Becker, Peter Gerrand, Albert Casellas, Sara Bosch, Mireia Perez, Victòria Gras, Josephine Canals, Marina Mateos, i Angela Amoros. Sub-Committee: Stewart King, Neus Gasulla.

At this meeting all the Committee positions will become vacant. Some of the present members are not standing this year. We want to encourage you to form part of the new Committee especially the young members who can bring fresh ideas for the organization of the activities. You only need to help a few hours sometimes, either by helping with administrations task like sending the mail or helping to set up the meeting room when the Casal has activities. We all help when we can and according to our abilities.

Without your collaboration there would be NO Casal. Please be part of the continuation of the Casal by standing for the Committee or Sub-comite. Those who may be interested in being nominated or in nominating another person, must complete the nomination form enclosed and it should reach the Casal no later than one week before the meeting.

Do not forget that the Casal is for everyone and to make the most of it we also need your presence to the activities that the Casal organizes.

We would like to remind all members that in order to be eligible to vote you must be a financial member. If you have not yet renewed your membersip for 2011/12. You can choose to either pay via Bank transfer (Account 06 3220 00900936 Commonwealth Bank of Australia) indicating as a reference your name and surname, send a cheque or alternatively pay cash prior to the AGM meeting on the day.

Due to the global crisis this year the Generalitat (Catalan Government) is cutting down on the grant to the Casal and this is why we need you support more than ever.

We would like to encourage all members to attend this meeting, as it is always a good opportunity to voice suggestions and to express your opinion for the Casal's improvement.

SANT JORDI 2011

Celebració del dia del Llibre i la Rosa, diumenge 17 d’abril a partir de 3pm

Estimats socis i sòcies, amics i amigues,

Ja és abril! A Catalunya els padrins compren la mona als fillols i els xiringuitos de platja comencen la temporada. Mentrestant, a Melbourne el sol cada dia s’amaga més aviat i el termòmetre baixa... Tot i les diferències, tant aquí com allà celebrem Sant Jordi.

Malauradament, però, hem de lamentar la defunció de la Rosa Querol el passat diumenge 27 de febrer a Bendigo on viu la seva família. La Rosa tenia 85 anys i va ser membre del Comitè fundador del Casal. Durant molts anys, la Rosa va ocupar el càrrec de tresorera dins de la nostra associació. També va col·laborar al programa en català de la Ethnic Public Radio on tenia l’espai de llengua "Apunts del Català Fàcil" i el de poesia, un art que la Rosa estimava. En nom del Casal i dels seus socis i amics, volem donar el nostre més sincer pésam al seu marit Josep, el seu fill Jordi i a la resta de la seva família.

La segona carta de l’any ens porta Sant Jordi, una de les festes més entranyables del calendari. Enguany farem una celebració per aglutinar petits i grans diumege 17 d’abril a partir de les 3 de la tarda al Casal (4a planta de la Ross House: 247-251 Flinders Lane, Melbourne). La vetllada comptarà amb una breu lectura pel grans, un concurs de dibuix amb premis de la llegenda pels més menuts, i una mica de piscolabis. A més, com ja sabreu, enguany celebrem el primer concurs literari del Casal! Amb premis per la primera i segona posició. Trobareu les bases adjuntes.

Una celebració que no us podeu perdre!

CRIDA IMPORTANT:

Ens agradaria aprofitar l’ocasió per fer una crida a nous membres del Comitè: part de l’actual Comitè tornarà a Catalunya aviat i, òbviament, no es podrà tornar a presentar. Així, els membres que remanen estan encantats de continuar AMB LA VOSTRA COL·LABORACIÓ. Només s’ha d’ajudar amb unes hores al mes, ja sigui fent un enviament de cartes, preparant la sala abans de qualsevol esdeveniment (com ara St Jordi) o amb qualsevol altra tasca fàcil per l’estil. Cadascú ajuda com i quant pot, sense obligacions.

Celebrating the day of the book and the rose at the Casal, Sunday 17 April from 3pm

Dear members and friends,

It's April! In Catalonia the godfathers buy the "mona" and the bars on the beach open their doors. Meanwhile, in Melbourne the sunset comes earlier and the temperatures begin to go down... Regardless of the differences, both there and here we celebrate Sant Jordi.

Unfortunately we need to mourn the passing of Rosa Querol last Sunday February 27th in Bendigo, the hometown of her family. Rosa was 85 years-old and was a founding member of the Casal. For many years, Rosa held the role of Treasurer of the Casal Committee. She also participated in the Catalan program at Ethnic Public Radio where she was in charge of the section "Apunts del català fàcil" and poetry, an art of which Rosa was very fond. On behalf of the Casal and its members and friends, we extend our deepest sympathies to her husband Josep, her son Jordi and the rest of her family.

This second newsletter for the year takes us to Sant Jordi, one of the most kindred celebrations of the year. This year we are organizing a celebratory day for children and adults on Sunday April 17th from 3pm at the Casal, 4th floor of the Ross House: 247 -251 Flinders Lane, Melbourne. There will be a short speech for the adults, a drawing competition with prizes for the younger ones and some nibbles. Also, as you may know, this year we are celebrating the First Literary Competition at the Casal with prizes for first and second place. The competition conditions attached.

A celebration you cannot miss!

IMPORTANT CALL:

We would like to take this opportunity to call for new members of the Committe: a number of the present Committe are returning to Catalonia soon, and so, will not be eligible for re-election. Hence, the members who remain would love to continue WITH YOUR PARTICIPATION. Only a few hours are needed a month, elther sending letters, preparing the room prior to an event or other various light duties.

Without your particiption, the Casal is NOT possible: make it possible and put your hand up to be part of the Committe or the Subcommittee at the AGM in August.

Also, by becoming a Committee member you will have the opportunity to help organize the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Casal at the Immigration Museum on September 11th, a very significant event!

International Book Day (St Jordi): Casal Català de Victòria First Literary Competition

1^er Concurs Literari Sant Jordi 2011
organitzat pel Casal Català de Victòria

Bases:

1. Pot participar tothom que ho desitgi: membres del Casal, amics, etc.

2. Pot presentar-se a concurs una única narració breu o poema redactada en català, castellà o anglès.

3. La narració tindrà una extensió màxima de 1,000 paraules.

4. L’obra es lliurarà al correu electrònic del casal en un arxiu adjunt de document Word. El mail portarà com a títol “Concurs de St. Jordi”. Al document de Word només hi figurarà el pseudònim l’autor o autora mentre que al correu hi haurà d’inserir el nom complet, adreça i el pseudònim escollit.

5. La data límit pel lliurament és el 12 d’abril de 2011.

6. Els premis es lliuraran el 17 d’abril de 2011 al Casal Català.

7. Hi haurà primer i segon premi per la modalitat narrativa i primer i segon premi per la modalitat de poesia. Aquests consistiran en una col·lecció de llibres en català.

8. El jurat estarà format per membres del comitè i sub-comitè del Casal Català.

9. Els guanyadors estaran convidats a llegir el poema o un fragment de la narració el dia de la celebració de la Diada al Casal.

10. Les obres guanyadores es publicaran a la pàgina web del Casal Catal i en un butlletí especial que es lliurarà el mateix dia de Sant Jordi entre els assistents. Els concursants que no desitgin publicar la seva obra ho hauran de manifestar en una nota al correu electrònic.

11. Tant les obres guanyadores com les no guanyadores es guardaran al Casal i es farà un petit dossier amb elles per a qui les vulgui consultar.

International Book Day (Saint George)Casal Català de Victòria First Literary Competition

Basis:

1. The competition is open to anyone from the Catalan Centre of Victoria, including members and friends.

2. Every participant is able to submit one story or poem which can be written in Catalan, Spanish or English.

3. The work must not exceed 1,000 words in length.

4. The poem or story will be submitted by email in an attached file document Word. The email will be named as “Saint George Competition”. The Word document will only include the author pseudonym whereas in the email the author must specify his full name, address and chosen pseudonym.

5. The deadline for handing the work is the 12^th of April 2011.

6. The prizes will be given on the 17^th of April 2011 in the Catalan Centre of Victoria.

7. There will be first and second prize for both disciplines. They will consist in a Catalan book.

8. The panel of judge will be formed by committee members of the Catalan Centre of Victoria.

9. The winners will be invited to read their poem or an extract of their story the same day of the celebration.

10. The winning poems and stories will be published at Centre of Victoria website and distributed to all the attendees at the event of Saint George’s Day. Competitors wishing their work not been published must specify so in the email.

11. The winning and not winning poems and stories will be kept in the Catalan Centre of Victoria library for anyone wishing to consult them.

PICNIC 25 ANIVERSARI! (BYO)

Estimats soci/es, amics i amigues,

Ja som de ple en el 2011! Des del casal aprofitem per desitjar-vos un molt bon i joiós any on esperem poder gaudir amb vosaltres les activitats i trobades organitzades pel Casal, especialment en les importants celebracions del 25è Aniversari de la nostra entitat.

La primera trobada d'enguany serà el tradicional "Aniversari Picnic" (BYO menjar/beure) el proper diumenge 13 de febrer a Harleston Parc (Elsternwick) -entrada per Allison Rd o Seymour Rd- a partir de les 12pm. Recordeu portar manta, cadires i tot el que cregueu necessari per estar còmodes. Jocs de taula, música i pilotes son benvinguts! Us hi esperem a tots.

Dear Casal members and friends,

A Happy New Year to you all! The Casal has planned several activities which we hope you will enjoy, especially our celebration of the Casal's 25th Anniversary.

The first meeting this year will be our traditional Anniversary Picnic (BYO food and drink) on Sunday February 13 at Harleston Park (Elsternwick) – enter by Allison Rd or Seymour Rd – from 12pm. Bring a blanket, chairs and anything else you might need to be comfortable. Board games, music and ball games are welcome! We hope to see you all there.

FREE Catalan Intensive Course in January - February 2011!

Staff, current or just completed students, interested in travelling, working or going on exchange to Catalonia are welcome to join a preparatory Catalan course (5 hours twice a week x 3 weeks).

It is a one off intensive course equivalent to a semester of study, not for credit and free, for outgoing students funded by Ramon Llull but offered through La Trobe university.
